Item 6: Creative Work

This is a reading of the first tablet of The Epic of Gilgamesh. It served as a final project for MDIA 1200. The class was given an assignment to tell a story in a podcast format. One of the requirements was that we had to include sound effects to enhance the experience of the story.
I chose to read Gilgamesh because I've been a fan of the story for some time. I love the fact that it's one of the first known written stories and I think the story is very interesting. Gilgamesh is a perfect being in every way, yet he runs into all this trouble and difficult situations. My intention was to use the original text of the English translation and add a comedic twist to it. I included voices that are not quite what one would imagine the characters to sound like. I also scored parts of the piece with some guitar that I recorded in my dorm room.
The voice was recorded in the vocal booth in the RTV lab and was mixed in Pro Tools. Voices were performed by Griffin Scanlan and myself. Guitar was recorded in my dorm room and mixed in Reaper. Guitar was performed by Nick Notturniano and myself. Sound Effects were recorded in the field with a Tascam HD-P2 recorder with a boom and shotgun microphone and in my dorm room on a Reaper recording setup with a Tascam interface and condenser microphone.
